Trophies

The Georgetown Skating Club recognizes skaters, coaches and volunteers for their skating accomplishments and dedication to the club at its year-end Annual Awards Banquet.


Skate Canada Achievement Awards

Each year the Board of Directors and the Professional Coaches provide nominations for the Skate Canada Achievement Awards based on defined criteria. Award winners are recognized by the club, Central Ontario Section and may be selected to be recognized at the national level at the Skate Canada Annual General Meeting.

Power Skater of the Year Awards

Awards are given to the skater that puts forth the most effort towards improving their skating at the PowerSkating level as selected by the Georgetown Skating Club professional coaches.

  • The Gushue MVP (most valuable Powerskater) Trophy
    This award is given to the Powerskater (Pre or Can) that is determined to learn/improve his/her hockey skating skills, listens to instructions and puts them into action, has respect for coaches and peers and has a true love of hockey. Also how many and what level of badge the skaters received througout the season.


CanSkate Achievement Award

Awards are given to skaters that successfully completed the CanSkate Program.


STARSkate Achievement Awards

Awards are given to the skater that puts forth the most effort towards improving their skating at the STARSkate level as selected by the Georgetown Skating Club professional coaches.

  • Ronald Halligan Memorial Bowl – STARSkate One
  • Professional Coach’s Trophy – STARSkate Two
  • Executive Trophy – STARSkate Three


Club Volunteer Awards

  • Honorary Membership - For Volunteer Enrichment to the GSC and the Skating Community
  • Ice Show Chair - Awarded to the Ice Show Chair in recognition of their volunteer dedication to coordinating the bi-annual GSC Ice Show 
  • Club Volunteer Award - Awarded annually to the volunteer that provides extraordinary service during the skating season
  • Program Assistant Awards - For Leadership to the Canskate Program
  • President's Award - Presented to the President of the GSC for dedication and volunteer service to the membership and the organization


Club Spirit Award

  • 50th Anniverary Bowl - In recognition of Skaters demonstarting Spirit,Triumph and Passion of the Sport consistent with the Skate Canada Vision 

Skate Canada Test Awards and Trophies

Awards are presented to the skaters that have successfully finished a complete set of dances, freeskate, skills or interpretive tests. In addition, trophies are awarded to the skater(s) that have passed the most number of tests at the Preliminary, Junior Bronze, Senior Bronze, Junior Silver, Senior Silver and Gold levels based on a predetermined point system for tests levels passed.

  • Merit Badge Recognition Awards
    Successful completion of a complete set of tests in dance, skills, interpretive and/or freeskate.

  • Gold Medals and Certificates
    Successful completion of a complete set of gold tests in dance, skills, interpretive and/or freeskate.

  • Gale Verhaegan Trophy
    Most tests passed at the Preliminary level.

  • Malatesta Achievement Cup
    Most tests passed at the Junior Bronze dance, Junior Bronze skills and Preliminary freeskate.

  • Nixdorf Family Trophy
    Most tests passed at the Senior Bronze dances Senior Bronze skills, Introductory Interpretive and Junior Bronze Freeskate.

  • Bill Smeaton Memorial Trophy
    Most tests passed in Junior Silver dances, Junior Silver skills, Bronze interpretive and Senior Bronze freeskate.

  • Rees Challenge Cup
    Presented to any skater that has completed tests in all four disaplines in one skating season including Dance, Skills, Free Skate and Interpretive.

  • 30th Anniversary Bowl
    Most tests passed at the Senior Silver dances, Senior Silver Skills and the Junior Silver fressskate including the Silver interpretive.

  • Gold Blades Senior Trophy
    Most tests passed at the Gold level.

  • President’s Cup
    Highest of the Merit Awards presented to the skater that has passed the most tests in dance, freeskate, interpretive and skills.

  • 2006-2007 Georgetown Skating Club Board of Directors Gold Test Plaques
    Recognition of the Georgetown Skating Club Gold Test achievement in Dance, Skills, Interpretive and Freeskate.
